Current Vintage: 2020
Rolf Binder, formerly known as Veritas, was established in the heart of the Barossa Valley in 1955 by Rolf Heinrich Binder. The winery tradition is now continued by the second generation of Binders, Rolf and Christa, as brother and sister winemakers. For more than 25 years, the siblings have produced a range of highly acclaimed wines from their estate and other premium Barossa vineyards.
THE VINEYARDS: The Fruit for the 2020 vintage was sourced from both vineyards in Eden Valley and the Barossa Valley to give the wine a richer flavours and intense spicy aromatics. The vineyard yielded 1.5T/acre of grapes for 2020 with the year bringing lower than average rainfall and higher than average temperatures. The Low yield brought intensity of fruit concentration along with ripe tannins. For the 2020 vintage the harvest began in mid-April which is earlier than usual for this Montepulciano.
A very dry Winter and Spring lead to early vineyard intervention to keep soil profiles moist. Frost and hail also assisted with yield reduction at flowering resulting in low cropping high quality fruit. The outcome was the lowest yielding Barossa Vintage in a decade and although low having the vines push all of the energy into the remaining fruit gave way to tremendous quality and balance in the wines.
Deep red with purple hues, juicy, crunch and mouth coating texture with plenty or red and blue fruits interlaced with spices and underlying floral elements. Dried herbs, mocha add to this wine. The finish is soft and lengthy with the silky tannin structure.

“Dark cherry, tar, spice, sage and slightly resinous oak. Medium bodied, dense and smooth, all dark cherry, brine and tar with dark chocolate. Sumptuous Turkish coffee tannin, and some coffee oak to go with it. Dry, firm and earthy on the finish with a distinct saline character. Shows promise I think.”

“This is a blockbuster style but it works, with bright acidity and lots of mineral, spice and berry character. Hints of wet earth. Extremely intense and gorgeous. So stylish. Drink now.”
