Also known as ‘Muscat of Hamburg’, this grape variety is derived from the crossing of the Schiava Grossa and Muscat of Alexandria grapes. We are fortunate to have just six rows planted on the Binder homestead property, so the yield is very low & the wine quite rare.
This fortified wine was first made in the Veritas Winery by Rolf Heinrich Binder in the late 1960s and had the distinctive ‘Black Cat’ Muscat label.
A lovely deep golden colour with red tinges.
Aromas of burnt caramel and raisins, with mature oak characters from the many years in barrel.
On the palate, enjoy burnt caramel and raisin/grape flavours with hints of fruit cake and toffee. Rich, velvety mouthfeel with a lovely balance of fruit sweetness that finishes clean and fresh, making this an ideal accompaniment to desserts, like Sticky Date Pudding. Also delicious with cheeses.
Try the Black Muscat on ice for drinking all year round! The perfect finish to any day.
