Oldie But Goodie

We received a letter and photo from a customer from thirty years ago, which we just had to share with you.

"Please find attached a photo of an empty bottle of Veritas wine my wife and I purchased from Mr. Binder in the late 1970's. Annette and I had been tasting most of the day and Veritas was our last stop of the day. It was about 4.30pm when we arrived at Veritas Cellars, and had tasted many wines that afternoon and then many more at Veritas including Bikaver (Bulls Blood). Mr. Binder closed the cellar door about 5.30pm with us still tasting, and Mrs Binder came out and gave us some soup, which we were very happy to have as we were starving. We then helped Mr. Binder with a garden fork moving grapes into an auger, and something else, maybe labels on bottles - the memory is a little dim. It was late and we had been tasting most of the day.

However.... we ended up purchasing about 7 dozen various wines including 3 bottles of this particular bottle of sweet sherry that Mr. Binder somehow found under the floor boards on the 20th April 1979 for $15 a bottle. We believe the vintage to be 1960, and we had it as a dessert wine with raspberry and white chocolate waffle pudding. It is deep gold brown in colour, sweet nutty on the palate with a long and rich mellow finish.

Pity that was the last bottle. Needless to say we are very satisfied customers. Can you check under the floor boards for more bottles??

Best Regards, Annette and Graham
